This is a first for about five years. The armed Islamist movement Hamas, in power in the Gaza Strip, executed on Sunday, September 4, five Palestinians, including two for “collaboration” with Israel. “On Sunday morning, the death sentence was carried out against two convicts for collaborating with the ‘occupation’ and three others in criminal cases”Hamas announced, claiming that the convicts “had previously obtained their full right to defend themselves” before the local court.
The interior ministry in the Gaza Strip, a Palestinian territory under Hamas control since 2007, provided details of each of those sentenced, but did not identify the five people executed, merely providing their initials, year or Place of birth.
The two men executed for “collaboration” were born in 1968 and 1978. The older of the two, who was “hanged”had been sentenced by the local courts for having supplied Israel from 1991 with “information on members of the resistance, their places of residence” and on “site of manufacturing and rocket launches”.
The second, which was “shot”was condemned for having supplied Israel from 2001 with “information” having “leads to the targeting and martyrdom of citizens” by Israeli forces. The other three people executed had previously been convicted of murder, the Hamas Interior Ministry concluded.
