The Haitian government denounced, on Wednesday, September 11, the “discriminatory statements” Donald Trump and Republican Party leaders say Haitian migrants in Ohio are preying on dogs and cats to eat them. “We firmly reject these remarks which undermine the dignity of our compatriots and which could endanger their lives.”added the Haitian government.
Since Monday, many conservative figures, often close to Donald Trump, have been peddling a theory, denied by the authorities, according to which Haitian undocumented immigrants in Ohio kill pets, or ducks in ponds, to eat them.
“In Springfield, they eat dogs, the people who come [des migrants] They eat cats. They eat the pets of the inhabitants”said the Republican candidate during the debate opposing him to his Democratic rival Kamala Harris.
“Unfortunately, this is not the first time that compatriots abroad have been victims of disinformation campaigns, stigmatized and dehumanized to serve electoral political interests.”wrote the Ministry of Haitians Living Abroad in a statement.
