hailstones caused damage in the east of the department

The bad weather lasted only 15 minutes, around 5 p.m., but large hailstones had time to make damage very locally in the east of Haute-Loire: in Lantriac, Saint-Pierre-Eynac and Saint-Julien-Chapteuil, i.e. a population pool of around 5,000 people, informs the prefecture, which also wishes to remind you that in the event of a damaged roof, you should not climb on the roof alone, but call the fire brigade and wait for their intervention.

In Saint-Julien-Chapteuil, the mayor told us this Sunday evening that the gymnasium was “a real sieve. It’s raining in the room!”. The municipal swimming pool, in the open air, should also be cleaned after a storm which caused dead leaves to fly into the basin.

A canopy of the Ehpad of the municipality of Lantriac was also affected. No residents were evacuated. Moreover, according to the latest information at 7:30 p.m., Haute-Loire firefighters indicated that they did not need to evacuate residents and no victim was identified.

Montfaucon-en-Velay, in Haute-Loire, also saw the passage of hailstones this Sunday evening, as evidenced by this photo sent to us by a resident.

About fifty firefighters have been on site in these municipalities since the end of the afternoon, mainly to cover damaged roofs. At 7:30 p.m. this Sunday, they had received 41 requests for intervention.

In the Loire department, hail also fell, but the firefighters did not notice any significant damage, nor a significant number of calls.
