(Londres) L’acteur britannique Robbie Coltrane, mondialement connu pour son rôle du demi-géant Hagrid dans les films de la saga Harry Potter, est mort à 72 ans, a annoncé vendredi son agente.

Robbie Coltrane, de son vrai nom Anthony Robert McMillan, s’est éteint vendredi à l’hôpital Forth Valley Royal de Larbert, en Écosse, a déclaré son agente Belinda Wright, remerciant le personnel soignant de l’établissement.
L’autrice de la saga Harry Potter, J.K. Rowling, a salué son « talent incroyable », sur Twitter. « J’ai été plus que chanceuse de le connaître, de travailler avec lui et de rire aux larmes avec lui », a-t-elle dit.
Né en Écosse, l’acteur était adoré des enfants du monde entier pour son interprétation du gentil, demi-géant maladroit à la barbe très fournie Rubeus Hagrid, qui aide le jeune sorcier Harry Potter et ses amis dans leurs aventures à l’école des sorciers de Poudlard.
En réalité, il mesurait 1,86 m, mais, pour les besoins du film, des trucages et effets spéciaux donnaient l’impression qu’il était beaucoup plus grand.
« Robbie avait un talent unique, partageant avec Michael Gambon (qui a aussi fait partie de la saga Harry Potter, interprétant le professeur Dumbledore) un record pour avoir remporté trois BAFTA [les récompenses britanniques du cinéma] Consecutive Best Actor Award” for his role in the series Crackingin 1994, 1995 and 1996, recalled his agent.
“He was smart, brilliantly witty, and after 40 years of being his agent, I will miss him,” she added.
Actor Daniel Radcliffe, who played Harry Potter in the saga, paid tribute to “one of the funniest people” he has met and an “incredible actor”.
Matthew Lewis, the interpreter of the young wizard Neville Longbottom, meanwhile hailed on Twitter “a giant, in many ways”.
Robbie Coltrane rose to prominence in the mid-1990s for his role as Doctor Eddie “Fitz” Fitzgerald, a psychologist assisting Manchester police in the British crime drama Cracking.
In the 1990s, he had also played in two films of the James Bond saga (The World Is Not Enough and GoldenEye), playing a Russian mobster and an ex-KGB agent.
