After pizzas, chocolates and cheeses, fish are attracting the attention of health authorities. Bourgain et Fils has launched a recall of smoked haddock fillets, reports France Bleu Nord on Friday April 15.

Nearly a thousand 200-gram trays, sold in Leclerc and Carrefour stores throughout France and whose expiry date is set for April 23, are affected by this recall. The company assures after several analyzes that no other batch of its products is contaminated, and adds that it has disinfected its entire factory of Boulogne-sur-Mer (Pas-de-Calais).

Those who have purchased these products are asked to return them to the store or to throw them away. People who have consumed the products and presenting with fever, isolated or accompanied by headaches, and body aches should consult a doctor. Pregnant women, immunocompromised people and the elderly should be especially alert to these symptoms.

Listeriosis is a rare foodborne infection – a few hundred cases per year in France – but, once declared, it is particularly deadly: around a quarter of patients die. The incubation period can be up to eight weeks.
