The hackers, having hacked into the computer system of the Corbeil-Essonnes hospital and not seeing their ransom demand satisfied, began to publish the stolen data.
The hospital refuses to pay the ransom, the hackers carry out the threats. The health establishment of Corbeil-Essonnes (Essone) still refuses to submit to the group of Russian hackers Lockbit 3.0. As a result, data, sometimes sensitive, is online. Thus, vital cards or medical results, such as electrocardiograms, are visible to the whole world. Some patients express concern: “I wouldn’t like people to know whether I have a serious illness or not.”
But then, why attack a hospital? Criminals confuse turnover and hospital budget. They think the establishment is private and wealthy. “It is easier to attack a hospital than a large CAC 40 company, which has ten years of maturity on these themes”, abounds Vincent Trelly, president of the APSIS (Association for the security of health information systems). The Russian hackers are now demanding two million euros.
