The creativity and collaboration of architects, interior designers, landscape architects and graphic designers working in the residential construction industry were recognized on November 18 at the Habitat Design Awards ceremony.
The competition encourages a multidisciplinary approach from the start of the creation of projects in order to promote the design of ergonomic, functional and aesthetic homes. It highlights the concepts presented before and during the construction of housing units in the Montreal region. The awards were presented this year in a dozen categories, among which stood out the show condos and the sales offices of various developers, who offer homes in different price ranges.
Regarding the fully decorated show apartments, for example, the jury selected Mellem Brossard, de Maître Carré (apartment valued at less than $ 375,000), Central Parc Laval, Groupe Saroukian and Gauvreau design (de $ 375,000 to $ 500,000) and Symphonia VIU, from Westcliff Corporation, Caroline Sidaros and Alain Desgagné, interior design (over $ 750,000). The public, who were asked to vote in two categories, chose the model apartment of Marquise Condominiums Phase 6, in Laval, and the sales office of Central Parc Laval, of Groupe Saroukian.
“Just the fact of talking about design in the home is an excellent thing”, considers the architect André Bourassa, one of the members of the jury in the section devoted to the sales offices, with among others the renowned industrial designer Michel Dallaire. , who presided over the award ceremony.

Mr. Bourassa is also a member of the board of directors of the Regroupement des managers et co-owners du Québec (RGCQ), in the Montreal division.
“Of course, this way of living is something important for me, because it refers to greater density, which is not a bad thing these days,” he explains. he. We cannot continually extend over the agricultural plain around Montreal, which I kindly call the pantry of Quebec. We must accept to build more densely, and that also means accepting living together. ”
To come back to the question of design, more particularly that of high-rise apartment buildings, he believes that sobriety is very important. “Sobriety doesn’t mean boredom, flatness and banality,” he insists. When it is well done and well managed, it has a promising future. We are more likely to have durability afterwards. ”
The Prix Habitat Design 2021 competition is organized in partnership with the Association des designers interior du Québec (APDIQ) and the magazine SHAPES, as well as the Association of Landscape Architects of Quebec (AAPQ) and the Society of Graphic Designers of Quebec, among others.
