Gynecologist Emile Daraï, accused of rape, is definitively dismissed from his post as head of department at Tenon hospital

Professor Emile Daraï, head of the endometriosis center at Tenon hospital in Paris until October 8, is permanently dismissed from his post at the head of this service, while he is the target of at least six complaints for rape. This is one of the conclusions of the internal commission of inquiry of the Public Assistance-Hospitals of Paris (AP-HP) revealed Thursday, December 9 by franceinfo. The practitioner is the target of at least six rape complaints, including one denounced by a minor.

“The standardized, rapid, technical and unaffected nature of the consultation, sometimes brutal and without empathy, would not be appropriate”, writes the internal commission of inquiry at the AP-HP in the conclusion of its report which does not however retain “no sexual connotation while certain breaches were noted in the collection of consent to certain gestures”. These shortcomings, as well as “Pain, information, lack of empathy are the characteristics of what the Haute Autorité de santé describes as mistreatment or lack of good treatment.”

In a letter sent Tuesday, December 7 to the director general of the AP-HP Martin Hirsch, the doctor, who still consults, said to himself “forced to recognize that these women could perceive the clinical examination which I carried out as devoid of empathy and benevolence”. “I learned with sadness of their feelings”, writes Professor Darai.

“I am deeply sorry and would like to offer them my sincere apologies.”

After 41 hearings carried out, the AP-HP internal commission of inquiry considers that “the obligation to inform patients, the relief of their pain, the respect of their wishes were not respected” and “the current situation is the result of individual dysfunctions but also collective and systemic.”

The AP-HP also decides to display a “charter of good practices” in all of its gynecology-obstetrics services, to provide a “information document” for each patient and “strengthen the efficiency of the processing of complaints relating to its medical practices”. Its pyramid organization is finally “called to evolve” because it can be, according to the AP-HP, “the source of malfunctions.”

Professor Emile Daraï has been the subject of rape accusations since a first complaint lodged by a young woman of 17 years old and following which the Paris public prosecutor’s office opened, on September 28, an investigation for “rape by person having authority over minors over 15 years of age “. After a second complaint received on September 30, the Paris prosecutor’s office extended this investigation to the offense of “gang rape” and the investigations were resumed by the 2nd district of the judicial police. According to information from franceinfo, the practitioner is now targeted by at least six complaints.
