Gymnastics Worlds | A 21st world title for Simone Biles

(Antwerp) The queen of gymnastics Simone Biles, back at the high level after two years off, landed in Antwerp on Friday the 21ste world title of his career by dominating the all-around competition, less than ten months before the Paris Olympics.

Already winning the team title on Wednesday, the American gymnast totaled a score of 58,399 and once again produced an all-around competition worthy of her standards, obtaining the best score on three of the four apparatuses. Only the uneven bars, the apparatus that was the least successful for him, escaped him.

With two more days of competition, everything suggests that the American’s collection will be further enriched since she still has four finals to compete.

Biles makes a breathtaking comeback in Antwerp, two years after the grueling Tokyo Olympics marked by the episode of ” twisties », these sudden losses of all reference in space.

During qualifying, the American added a new line to her legend by successfully completing a unique jump of extreme difficulty which now bears her name.

On Wednesday, spectators at the Flemish city’s Sportpaleis witnessed another extremely rare event when Biles literally caught his feet in the mat on a jump that seemed innocuous towards the end of his floor program.

The incident, accompanied by “ooohs” and “aaahs” from the public and which seemed to make the American smile, had no consequences in the ranking.

The Brazilian Rebeca Andrade (56,766), title holder, and another American, Shilese Jones (56,332) complete the podium.
