A man in his twenties known to police was arrested with a loaded firearm Thursday during an arrest on Highway 15 in Montreal.
Kevin Legoute, a man with numerous criminal records, appeared at the Montreal courthouse. He faces several firearms-related charges.
It was around 4:30 a.m. Thursday that Sûreté du Québec (SQ) patrol officers from the Montreal highway station saw his car on the shoulder of Highway 15 South. The suspect allegedly committed several violations of the road safety code. While the vehicle was still moving, the driver allegedly changed places with the passenger.
During the arrest, near Queen Mary Road, the police identified the driver, who was now a passenger in the vehicle, and arrested him for failure to comply with the conditions, according to the SQ. He was in possession of a loaded firearm at the time, which was seized by authorities.
Legoute, who initially provided a false identity to the police, was also arrested under an arrest warrant that had been issued against him. He is currently detained.
