A man in his thirties linked to street gangs in Rivière-des-Prairies is getting off with the minimum sentence of three years in prison after selling a firearm via the Snapchat app. His client was actually a double agent for the Service de police de la Ville de Montréal (SPVM).
Renoldson Vil, 31, pleaded guilty this week in Montreal court to charges of arms trafficking and possession of a prohibited firearm. Judge Flavia K. Longo upheld the joint plea of three years presented by both parties.
It was during the summer of 2023 that the police received information from the public concerning the user of a Snapchat account suspected of selling narcotics. An undercover officer made contact with the Internet user. According to the summary of the facts presented in court, it would be Renoldson Vil’s co-accused, Jordy Milius.
According to our information, Milius is considered by the police to be a member of a Rivière-des-Prairies street gang, the Profit Kollektaz.
The latter is therefore closely monitored, while he is accompanied by Mr. Vil. The double agent ends up meeting him near a residence in the east of Montreal.
Mr. Vil comes out of his house with a Dollarama bag in his hands. He shows a black Girsan pistol – a restricted weapon – and a magazine to his “customer,” without knowing that he was a police officer.
He mentions that the ammunition is at his sister’s house, where he has been staying for a few days. The police search her home, where another firearm is located.
Guns sold on Snapchat
One of Renoldson Vil’s co-defendants is suspected of orchestrating the sale of firearms and narcotics on social media. “The Snapchat account is allegedly owned by Jordy Milius,” M.e Lauren Dahan, Crown Prosecutor.
Renoldson Vil had no prior criminal record at the time of his guilty plea, his lawyer M noted.e Dominic Côté: “From the very beginning of the case, he expressed his desire to plead guilty,” he explained.
Taking into account the pre-trial detention, he has approximately 17 months left to spend behind bars.
“The accused is relatively young,” Mr.e Dahan.
The case of Mr. Vil’s alleged accomplice, Jordy Milius, is due back in court next fall.
