A young killer has been sentenced to 13 years in prison for the wanton murder of Normand Paradis, an 87-year-old man. Yoan Pauzé, 19 years old at the time of the events, had stabbed the victim several times during a break-in while pretending to be a police officer.

Yoan Pauzé pleaded guilty to manslaughter Thursday morning at the Montreal Courthouse. Judge Marc-André Blanchard then endorsed the joint suggestion of the Crown and the Defense, which was 13 years.
“The court hopes that time will ease the pain [de la famille de la victime] and bring them a certain peace of mind, ”said Judge Blanchard in rendering his decision. The Court condemned a “gratuitous” gesture towards a vulnerable victim while she was in her own home.
A fake policeman
On the night of October 9, 2020, the young man with a heavy criminal history knocked on the walls and doors of several apartments in a building in the Anjou sector, in Montreal. He presents himself as a Laval policeman. He had just been evicted from the accommodation because of his aggression.
Several calls are made to 911. The agents on site first inspect a vehicle in the garage, vandalized by the young killer.
They later locate the victim, Normand Paradis, “a man without history who has no connection with the accused or his friends”, can we read in the court documents summarizing the facts.
He is sitting on a chair, his linen soaked in blood, his body wounded by eleven stab wounds.

Substance abuse problem
At the time of the murder, Yoan Pauzé had just been released despite serious firearms charges. He was then 19 years old and had consumed a large amount of drugs and alcohol. The young criminal was on parole and on probation.
Yoan Pauzé, struggling with substance abuse since the age of 13, “becomes aggressive when he consumes”, can we read in the statement of facts. He had “a blank stare” when he was arrested. In the patrol car, he compliments the dog handler on his dog and claims to be surprised to be in Montreal: he thought he was in Laval. The police then described him as “extremely confused. »
Given his pre-trial detention, he will have to spend a little less than ten years behind bars.
