Comedian Guillaume Meurice was questioned on Tuesday November 21 by the police as part of an investigation for provocation of hatred and aggravated public insult after a joke about Benyamin Netanyahu. “The free hearing which took place is part of an investigation opened for incitement to hatred and aggravated public insult, following a complaint from the OJE [Organisation juive européenne] dated November 6″detailed the public prosecutor.

Guillaume Meurice posted on Tuesday on X (formerly Twitter) the header of the report of his summons by the Parisian judicial police, commenting: “It’s the story of a guy… Who makes jokes in 2023.”

On October 29, the comedian described Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu on France Inter as a “kind of a Nazi but without a foreskin”. He received a “warning” from the management of Radio France. The CEO of the public group Sibyle Veil said in an interview with La Tribune Sunday not having wanted to dismiss him, for “not “send a signal that some would have hastened to exploit”.

The matter was contacted by the Audiovisual and Digital Communication Regulatory Authority (Arcom) at the end of October. The latest episode of Charline Vanhoenacker’s show “Le Grand Dimanche Soir”, where Guillaume Meurice is a columnist, was not recorded in public as usual, due to death threats received by the team .
