Guillaume Lemay-Thivierge explains himself on the program of Stéphan Bureau

The comedian Guillaume Lemay-Thivierge came to explain himself Friday evening on the set of the show The world upside downbroadcast on TVA, five days after bursting onto the stage in the middle of the Prix Gémeaux gala to hold an unsolicited speech.

Asked by the host whether he regretted his action, he said no. “I don’t regret it, because I’m lucky enough to be able to explain it today. »

” This kind of stunt, it’s a bit like a parachute jump, continues Guillaume Lemay-Thivierge. You go for it and you say to yourself, maybe it’s a good move, maybe it’s a bad move. I won’t know until I try it. »

As a reminder, the actor interrupted last Sunday the host of the Gémeaux Awards gala evening, Véronique Cloutier, when she was going to present the next segment, piloted by Ingrid Falaise, actress and director of the documentary series Woman I kill youand Léa Clermont-Dion, doctor in political science and co-director of I salute you bitch. Misogyny in the digital age.

What many have criticized Guillaume Lemay-Thivierge for is having encroached on the speaking time of these women, whose segment was to put forward Quebec documentaries having an impact on Quebec society.

Why give it a new platform, when several Internet users believe that it has already taken up too much space? To decode the message he tried to deliver, explains host Stéphan Bureau.

A desire for revenge

“It’s the 5 or 6e time I invite myself to a gala or go on stage unexpectedly. I’ve done it several times,” explains Guillaume Lemay-Thivierge in an interview.

Ex-Hyundai spokesperson admits part of him wanted revenge on Guy A. Lepage and Louis Morissette, who mocked his choice to wait for Medicago vaccine before getting vaccinated against COVID-19, last year, on the set of Everybody talks about it. A choice that cost him his partnership with the car company.

“It’s a fight of grown-ups in a schoolyard, in front of everyone. It was not necessary, ”admits the comedian in retrospect.

“I was still hurt from my last year. […] I didn’t think that being afraid of something could cause me to lose my job, extremely harsh or even violent criticism, ”he adds, visibly moved.

He assures us, however, that his intervention was above all political and aimed to recall the importance of going to vote in the next provincial elections. He then took advantage of his platform to “give back their coin” to those who “hurt” him, he explains.

Adding to have buried the hatchet with the two artists, he said he wanted to apologize to “the children of Louis, Véro and Guy A”. He also apologized to the documentarians he interrupted. “I didn’t know at all that I was interrupting this and I blame myself,” he continues.

“You will see me a little less because I will take care of myself,” he drops at the end of the interview, admitting to needing a rest.

Stéphan Bureau also received Normand Brathwaite as a special guest, as well as the other regular collaborators of the show Yasmine Abdelfadel, Biz, Gregory Charles and Sophie Durocher.
