While the Blues arrived in Budapest (Hungary) on Monday January 10 at 4 p.m., they discovered, at the same time as the landscapes of the country, the local health rules. Rather far from other European countries. “Hungary is experiencing the Covid in a very different way”, commented coach Guillaume Gille on Tuesday evening at a press conference.

Because if the measures put in place by the European Handball Federation (EHF), organizer of the European Championship, are very restrictive, the Hungarian health rules are very different. “We are in hotels with other customers, not masked, we eat in the same places as them. We try to protect ourselves but there are surprising conditions in this competition”, detailed Nikola Karabatic.

“We are immersed in a system which suggests that all the work carried out upstream, compliance with the protocol set by the EHF, the covid tests, is somewhat undermined by the organization on site”, adds his coach.

Conditions which surprised the French delegation, which did not fail to raise its concerns with the EHF. “I hope that what we have brought up will make a difference very quickly because this big gap is not very acceptable”, continued Guillaume Gille, the coach.

Thursday, his French team will face Croatia, for their first match in the competition.
