Guillaume Canet haunted by his father’s heart attack, this childhood trauma that turned his life upside down

This Monday, June 27, 2022, Canal + decided to honor the film “Lui” by Guillaume Canet. On screen, the famous director portrays the role of a father who decides to drop everything to better find himself. He also goes into exile on a totally deserted Breton island… Or almost, because his stay will not be easy. Quite the contrary!

A work that should delight countless moviegoers. Last year, Marcel and Louise’s dad gave an exclusive interview to our colleagues from Point to talk about filming. The opportunity for him to indulge like never before on his anxieties that impact his daily life. “It comes from my relationship to death and things that I experienced as a kid. Everyone sees me in Guillaume Canet: he is lucky, everything is fine, he is with Marion Cotillard, he has a good life… But, like everyone else, I had accidents, traumas that I tell in the movie “, explained the main interested party.

“I found him lifeless in the garden after our argument…”

Few know it, but Guillaume Canet has come a long way. As a child, he was marked by the heart attack of his parent “occurring on the day he left home”.“I found him lifeless in the garden after our argument”confessed the star not without bitterness. “It’s a feeling of guilt that you carry around for a long time.”

On the set of DailyGuillaume Canet has agreed to confide more in this terrible tragedy. “When you have your father leaving the house and you say something to him, like a child who sees himself as an adult, ‘if you walk through that door, you’re no longer my father’, and he says a heart attack behind the door is traumatic for a ten-year-old child,” he analyzed.

Much later, his dad also had to fight against the disease. “My father turned 80 a few days ago and he is still here, having survived heart attacks, cancer,” added the actor who has long thought that he was responsible for all his ills. “ There were aftermaths of health glitches that always made us feel like we were the trigger for these health problems. You can’t imagine how a child can be traumatized by things like that”.
