In Moselle, a couple of merchants have taken up the challenge of setting up a butcher’s shop in the small village of Baudrecourt (Moselle), to sell meat from local breeders there. It’s been a year, and it’s already a huge success.
It’s a bit like the new meeting place of the village. The butchery in Baudrecourt (Moselle) opened a little over a year ago. “It brings life back to the village, it’s very appreciable”, explains a resident. The first supermarket is 10 kilometers away. Guillaume Brabant, butcher, bet everything on proximity. All its products come from the surrounding villages and are not necessarily more expensive. An initiative supported by customers.
No intermediary with farmers
Regularly, Guillaume Brabant goes out to meet farmers. No need to drive for long, the cows are 4 kilometers away, in Lesse (Moselle). There is no middleman here, so the butcher agreed to buy a kilo of meat at 50 cents more than the market. The butcher wants to recharge his batteries near the village, even if it means giving up certain products. A few years ago, he knew nothing about cutting. When he chooses to settle in rural areas, the banks do not believe it. Today, he even cooks meals for the village school canteen, and wants to expand.
