In the aftermath of criticism from the opposition denouncing the government’s inaction in the fight against armed violence, the Minister of Public Security Geneviève Guilbault canceled an electoral trip on Friday to devote herself to the management of the file.
Mme Guilbault was to participate in Percé at the announcement of the CAQ candidacy in the riding of Gaspé. A press release had been sent on this subject around 3 p.m. Thursday, but on Friday morning a second indicated that Mme Guilbault was replaced by Agriculture Minister André Lamontagne.
M’s officeme Guilbault then explained that she had canceled her trip to focus on the means to be deployed against the wave of armed violence in Montreal.
“We want to settle this quickly to restore the sense of security of Montrealers,” said press officer Louis-Julien Dufresne.
It was not possible to have details on what is planned other than meetings, according to his cabinet.
The day before, the Legault government had been the target of crossfire from two of its opponents who were on the ground in Montreal, the Liberal leader Dominique Anglade and the Conservative leader Éric Duhaime.
