(Guadalajara) Eugenie Bouchard qualified for the second round of the Guadalajara Open by beating Renata Zarazua 6-1, 7-6 (4) on Sunday.
Bouchard seemed headed for an easy victory after the first set, but Zarazua found his game afterward. She almost forced a final set, but failed to win the extra points in the tiebreaker.
Bouchard made five aces in a match that lasted an hour and 30 minutes. His opponent committed three double faults and did not make an ace.
The Quebecer won 43 serving points and nine serving games. Bouchard even won five games in a row at one point.
Later in the evening, Laval’s Leylah Fernandez will face American Asia Muhammad, from qualifying.
