Guadalajara Open | Bianca Andreescu and Rebecca Marino win in straight sets

(Guadalajara) The Canadians had success in the first games of the Guadalajara Open on Monday.

Ontario’s Bianca Andreescu posted an easy 6-2, 6-4 victory over Switzerland’s Jil Teichmann in the first round of the tournament.

A native of Mississauga, Andreescu has broken her opponent on five of her seven occasions and won 61% of her first-serve points. The 22-year-old will now cross swords with the winner of the duel between American Bernarda Pera and Czech Petra Kvitova.

British Columbia’s Rebecca Marino also won her first round match in straight sets, 6-2, 7-6 (2) over American Ann Li.

Marino had 11 aces against only one double fault and she converted three of her 10 break chances. Li committed five double faults and recorded only one break in three occasions.

The Vancouver native will take on France’s Caroline Garcia, 10e first in the series.

Quebecer Leylah Fernandez is scheduled to face Swiss Belinda Bencic later Monday.
