GST rebate: Find out when families will get more money

Canadians and Quebecers will receive more money as of July 5 thanks to the new GST refund, after the adoption of Act number 3 on the reduction of the cost of living.

This one-time benefit called the “one-time grocery rebate” will provide targeted relief for 11 million low- and modest-income individuals and families who need it most.

The grocery rebate will be paid to eligible Canadians on July 5, by direct deposit or by check, through the Canada Revenue Agency, the federal finance department said.

Thus, an eligible family of four children will be able to receive a reimbursement of up to $467, while a person living alone without children will be entitled to up to $234. Seniors, on the other hand, would receive an average of $225.

In addition to this benefit, the new law provides that Ottawa will devote $ 2 billion in health transfers to the provinces, money intended in particular to support pediatric hospitals and emergency rooms.

Thus, thanks to this investment by the federal government, Quebec will receive $447 million to improve health care, much less than the province of Ontario, which will obtain more than $776 million.
