Decidedly, many Austrian wines have a very good price-quality ratio. Here is one more, from the Weinviertel region, which stretches east, north and west of Vienna.

The Gruber family cultivates its vines here around the village of Röschitz. Pepp is an excellent introduction to Grüner Veltliner, Austria’s main grape variety.

The nose, moderate, is well-typed with a mixture of aromas of fruit, plants and spices: green and yellow apple, pear, fresh herbs and white pepper. A slight residue of gas adds a little pearliness in the mouth and accentuates the great freshness of the wine.

Dry, light, fresh and tonic, it is ideal for aperitif, but will also be very versatile at the table: fried or grilled fish with a salsa of fresh herbs, courgette or fennel salad and citrus fruits.
