Until now, when your tooth was very diseased, it had to be pulled out, devitalized, sacrificed and replaced with an implant. Imagine growing a new tooth instead, it seems crazy and yet.
“Researchers from Kyoto University have already succeeded in growing teeth in mice”, says Damien Mascret, doctor and journalist, present on the set of 20 Heures, Tuesday May 21. These researchers then decided to launch a trial in humans, which will begin in July. “There are 30 men aged between 30 and 64 who are missing at least one tooth”, he adds. The absence of at least one tooth affects 5% of the French population.
“You may be wondering how a tooth grows.”asks Damien Mascret. “There is, in the gums, the potential for a third teething, it is in the making, but it is not triggered, but the Japanese researchers said to themselves that they could achieve this with targeted therapy”, he explains. We must now see if this will be tolerated in humans after the study on mice. If the study is positive, the measure could be extended to children.
