Groundhog Day for CH

For a second game in a row, the Montreal Canadiens messed up and allowed their rivals to win in a shootout.

Saturday night, at Amalie Arena, the Tampa Bay Lightning defeated head coach Martin St-Louis’ men 4 to 3.

Like Thursday evening, in a loss against the Florida Panthers, the CH allowed a goal while playing with an extra man on the ice. This once again allowed their rivals to level the score 3-3, force extra time and triumph. It was Tyler Motte who scored this important goal. It was also the 11th time this season that the Montreal team allowed a goal while playing on the power play.

Earlier in the third period, Josh Anderson deflected a Cole Caufield shot behind goalie Andrei Vasilevskiy to put the visitors ahead.

The Canadian also started this match against the Bolts strong and scored two goals in the first period.

Joel Armia took a pass from Kaiden Guhle on a power over and beat Vasilevskiy with an excellent low shot. It was the Finn’s 11th this season. Before the end of the first period, Jake Evans took advantage of good work from Brendan Gallagher in the corner of the ice to double the visitors’ lead.

The crowd favorites bounced back in the second period, however. Brayden Point and Anthony Cirelli put the puck behind Cayden Primeau’s back. The latter finished his match with 30 saves.

The Habs will try to return to victory on Tuesday evening. For the occasion, the Bleu-Blanc-Rouge players will face the Predators in Nashville.
