Griffintown restaurant targeted by gunfire

The Palma restaurant in the Griffintown area was targeted by gunfire early Friday morning.

The Montreal Police Department (SPVM) was notified around 5 a.m. of detonations at the intersection of Wellington and Peel streets.

Officers observed projectile impacts on the facade of the Palma restaurant, located on the second floor of a commercial building, as well as a shell casing on the ground, according to media relations officer Véronique Dubuc. The incident did not cause any injuries and the restaurant was empty at the time.

According to our sources, the Palma restaurant is one of the few downtown establishments frequently visited by the SPVM’s Éclipse squad, which specializes in collecting information on organized crime and monitoring places with alcohol permits.

However, the motive of the shooters, who were in a vehicle at the time of the shooting, is unknown. As The Pressthe smashed window of the upscale Griffintown restaurant was still clearly visible.

A perimeter has been erected to allow investigators and forensic technicians to clarify the circumstances of this episode of armed violence.
