It is a very ambitious project in the midst of a health crisis. The creation of a new French company in 2023, but a company that wants to be different. It will be called Flying Green and wants to become the first “eco-responsible” company, an air carrier more respectful of the environment, which will rely on the most advanced technologies in terms of reducing CO2 emissions.
The model of this future company intends to rely on the use of biofuels, SAF (in English sustainable aviation fuel), a fleet of latest generation aircraft, greener operational procedures, on the ground and in flight.
The project is led by Pascal Frochot, an Air France and Air Lib alumnus and a 31-year-old young entrepreneur, graduated from ESTACA, the school of aeronautical engineers. Flying Green plans to start its activities at Orly with three Airbus 320 NEOs in the second quarter of 2023.
The profitability and viability of the business model, which will not be low cost, would have been validated by the plan jointly carried out with Airbus. If the project on paper is attractive, the hardest part remains to be done. Flying Green, helped by BPI France, must now find the funds for the purchase of the planes.
And for now, several questions remain unanswered. On what lines and especially at what price? Because if alternative fuels are attractive, they are much more expensive, and for the moment, the sector is non-existent.
Finally, will the passenger agree to pay more for their plane ticket, if the future Flying Green will be one of the few to use these SAFs, and conversely, if all the already well-established companies decide to make same.
