Green Party | Elizabeth May on forced rest after hospitalization

(OTTAWA) The husband of Green Party leader Elizabeth May says she is home after spending a few days in the hospital for overwork, fatigue and stress.

John Kidder said in a statement posted on Mr.me May that she was discharged from Saanich Peninsula Hospital on Saturday morning to continue resting and regaining her energy.

Elizabeth May, who is 69, has been an MP since 2011.

John Kidder’s statement recalled the long hours during which parliamentarians are often required to sit.

He said the constant travel and urgent tasks in the constituency, combined with working days that can last 19 hours, would be the subject of union grievances in other workplaces.

Colleagues voted to award Mr.me May the “hardest working MP” awards in the past.

“Elizabeth was undone last week due to overwork, fatigue and stress,” the post read.

“In any other profession, we recognize that people can’t perform at their best when they’re too tired. »

Mme May led her party from 2006 to 2019 and returned to the helm in 2022.
