Accused of “psychological violence” by his ex-partner, the former leader of Europe Écologie-Les Verts Julien Bayou announced Thursday March 7 in a press release to AFP that he was withdrawing from his party and his group in the National Assembly , to be able to defend themselves. Taking “act” of his ex-partner’s complaint, he believes that this procedure will allow him to “prove (one’s) innocence”. “I will no longer speak on their behalf during the investigation”he adds.
In his press release, Julien Bayou says he knows his group and his party are “committed to the rule of law”and thus know “that they [lui] will allow us to resume [sa] place, in the group as within the movement, once [son] innocence definitively proven”. “This decision was necessary, so that during the legal proceedings, he would not speak on our behalf”greeted on X the president of the environmental group in the National Assembly, Cyrielle Chatelain.
Second withdrawal of the MP
The MP is the target of a complaint for moral harassment and fraudulent abuse of the state of weakness of his ex-spouse, Anaïs Leleux, who affirmed on Wednesday that she wanted to make this sequence “the feminist trial of the century”. The facts testified by the alleged victim “are extremely serious and we take them very seriously. Listening to the words of women victims, encouraging them and acting accordingly, is our responsibility as a party”reacted the environmentalist party on Wednesday.
This is the second time that the elected environmentalist has withdrawn. He had already done so in September 2022, even leaving the head of his party and his group because of the first revelations on this affair. In February 2023, his group finally recorded the end of this withdrawal, after the closure of an internal party investigation, due to not being able to hear the complainant.
