The United States has finally given its agreement so that Ukraine can obtain F16 warplanes. If they will not supply them directly, allied European countries will soon be able to deliver them.

The F16 is the most widely used and feared fighter aircraft in the world. It is fast, versatile, much more efficient than those currently used by the Ukrainian army. Volodymyr Zelensky had been asking his Western allies for months. The United States has finally given its agreement so that it can have its green light. Countries that wish to do so will therefore be able to send their devices to Ukraine. This could be a real turning point in this war. “We are talking about planes capable of bombing, air fighters, destroying radars to blind Russian anti-aircraft defences. It is a technological gap. The Ukrainians are moving forward 20-30 years in terms of of armament”explains an air and cosmos journalist.

Volodymyr Zelensky calls for 200 planes

The United States will not provide its own devices for the moment. In Europe, countries like Norway, Denmark, Poland, the Netherlands and Belgium will be able to transfer their planes to Ukraine. The Netherlands has already indicated that it will make some of its devices available to kyiv. Their F16 fleet is aging and they want to renew it with F35s like other NATO countries. 2,300 F16s are currently in service worldwide. Volodymyr Zelensky claims 200 for what could constitute an air combat coalition.
