Greater Montreal | Six major speeding incidents on Friday and Saturday

Six major speeding offences were observed by the Sûreté du Québec (SQ) during the days of Friday and Saturday. Three of them were committed during races.


On Friday, around 9 p.m., a 20-year-old man was stopped at 190 km/h on Highway 13 North in Laval while he was participating in a race. The Eustachois has lost all his demerit points and could face criminal charges for dangerous driving.

About four hours later, two drivers were stopped in the middle of a race in the same area. One was driving at 209 km/h and the other at 186 km/h.

Another race was observed at 11:15 p.m., this time in Saint-Jérôme, on Highway 15 North. Only one of the drivers involved was intercepted, an 18-year-old man who was traveling at 197 km/h.

The Sûreté du Québec gives motorists stopped during a race a $1,576 fine in addition to removing 12 demerit points. In addition, they are fined for excessive speeding.

At full speed

On Friday night, a driver was stopped at a speed of 156 km/h on Highway 15 North in Mirabel in a work zone. He was driving at more than double the speed limit, set at 70 km/h.

Around 12:15 a.m. Saturday, a motorist was stopped while driving at 181 km/h on Highway 640 West in Saint-Eustache. The 39-year-old man from Sainte-Marthe-sur-le-Lac received a ticket totaling $1,601 and lost 18 demerit points.

At the same time, a 24-year-old man was stopped at 140 km/h on Highway 15 North in Mirabel, in a zone where the speed limit is 90 km/h due to construction. The Blainville resident had his license suspended for thirty days, in addition to losing 10 demerit points and receiving a ticket for $864.
