Greater Montreal | Road obstacles to watch out for this weekend

The Louis-Hippolyte-La Fontaine tunnel will be closed for three consecutive nights this weekend, while other traffic obstructions are planned in Greater Montreal, notably on the Papineau-Leblanc bridge and the Ville-Marie highway.

This was indicated Thursday by Mobilité Montréal, the committee responsible for coordinating major works in the metropolitan region and its surroundings.

First, along the axis of Highway 25, the La Fontaine tunnel will be closed during the nights of Friday, Saturday and Sunday. Towards the south, traffic will be impossible between exit 4 towards avenue Souligny and the entrance to rue de l’Île-Charron. Heading north, the closure will be in effect between exit 90 towards La Prairie and Varennes and the entrance from rue Notre-Dame Est.

Nearby, Avenue Souligny will also be blocked in the east direction, between the Dickson and Honoré-Beaugrand axes, during the same three nights. Towards the west, it will be between Honoré-Beaugrand and Dickson, but only from Friday evening to Saturday morning.

In the city center, exit 6 of the Ville-Marie highway, leading in particular to Saint-Laurent Boulevard and Berri Street, will have to be closed for the entire weekend. The development work on Place des Montréalaises, carried out by the City, is still in progress.

Further north, the Papineau-Leblanc bridge linking Montreal to Laval continues to be very obstructed on weekends, due to major work. Traffic will be impossible in both directions all weekend. The Pie-IX, Médéric-Martin and Viau bridges are alternative options to consider.

On the municipal network, work on pipes will ensure that contraflow traffic – two lanes towards the west and another towards the east – will be in place on rue Sherbrooke Est between avenue Prud’homme and Décarie Boulevard, all from Saturday morning to Monday afternoon.

Finally, ramp repair work in the Sources interchange, which resumed on Monday, risks causing congestion on Highway 20 in Pointe-Claire. The same goes for the reconstruction work on the overpasses on Côte-de-Liesse, above Hickmore Street, which resumed at the end of March.

Notice to users of the Réseau express métropolitain (REM): the latter will be exceptionally unavailable this Saturday between 5:30 a.m. and 7:30 a.m. due to a systems update. Buses will provide service between Brossard and downtown Montreal during these two hours.
