Great Mosque of Quebec | A memorial service will be held Monday

(Quebec) A commemorative ceremony for the deadly attack on the great mosque of Quebec, which occurred in 2017, is planned for Monday.

Six Muslim men were killed and five others injured when an armed man burst into the Islamic Cultural Center of Quebec City shortly after evening prayers on January 29, 2017.

Organizers say the event aims to honor the memory of the dead and show support for their families, as well as survivors of the attack.

The ceremony will take place at 6 p.m. at the center and will be broadcast online.

It follows a series of open house events at the mosque aimed at connecting with the broader Quebec City community.

In 2021, Prime Minister Justin Trudeau declared January 29 a National Day of Commemoration of the Quebec City Mosque Attack and Action Against Islamophobia.
