The little new Grand Eugène gives birth to a first microalbum of the same name, composed of seven songs, all very interesting and gently catchy. But let’s start at the beginning: Grand Eugène was conceived in Vancouver and hatched in Montreal by Melyssa Lemieux (vocals), Jeremy Lachance (guitar and composition), Olivier Tanguay (drums), Nassim Dib-Mudie (keyboards) and Greg Tremblay-Meadors (low). Together, they offer a lo-fi francophone dream pop that evokes the contemplative and engaging melodies of Part Time and Tops, as well as the delicacy of the lyrics of Rachel Leblanc, alias Vanille. We thus browse from one piece to another, coiled in a graceful and warm languor. “I don’t have the head to / hear from you / It’s not that I don’t think about it / nor that it pains me / It’s just that I’m waiting / that you call me back” . My love, for example, recounts in a comforting simplicity the beginnings of beautiful encounters and the uncertainty they cause. A great start!
