great ambitions for the Sénonais Axel Maurin

He was to be one of the first “clean” motorcycle riders to run on biofuel. It won’t be for this year. Axel Maurin’s project to ride his Yamaha with this green fuel fell through. Other changes are to be expected for the Senon driver since he has changed tires (on Pirelli while he was driving on Michelin). The ambitions of the motorcycle rider remain high although he admits going a bit into the unknown: “The championship is evolving. There are a lot of technological developments and always new surprises. There are young drivers who are rising. I am 33 years old. There are 16-year-old drivers who fit into the category and who are already in the game.”

Since 2017, Axel Maurin has been sailing between second and fourth place in the championship. He readily admits that his “ambitions are a little high.” but avoids putting pressure on himself at the start of the championship. He prefers “be offensive on the first three-four events and from there we will start to calculate an end goal“.

The first race of the season will take place on the Bugatti circuit of Le Mans, the 24-hour circuit. A circuit that the driver knows well and which has “a particular flavor” according to him. Despite the victories won on the mythical circuit, Axel Maurin admits that this can be an additional pressure: “it’s the meeting at the beginning of the year where everyone has planned to come. It’s always better to shine from the start on a circuit where the results have a little more important resonance“.

The races begin this Sunday, March 27.
