A grandmother and her granddaughter were shot and killed in Montreal during the night from Wednesday to Thursday, confirmed the Service de police de la Ville de Montreal (SPVM).
The 73-year-old woman had died in an apartment in the Pointe-Saint-Charles district when the police arrived and her 22-year-old granddaughter was found seriously injured. The latter died of his gunshot wounds in hospital on Thursday morning.
No suspects have been arrested at this time and the motive for this double murder is not known at this time.
The police had found the two women following a call made to 911 around 2:40 a.m. after shots rang out in a residential area of the metropolis, near a park.
The investigation is ongoing and forensic identification technicians were on site Thursday morning to analyze the crime scene, confirmed Marianne Allaire Morin, spokesperson for the SPVM.
A major crimes unit command post was also set up and the canine unit searched the surrounding area.
Bullet casings were also found on the spot.
The mayoress of Montreal, Valérie Plante, said Thursday morning that she was “breathless” when she learned of this double feminicide. “My condolences to the bereaved family and loved ones,” she wrote on her Twitter account.
