Already, Denmark is preparing to celebrate the birthday of its future queen consort. On February 5, 2022, Princess Mary will celebrate her 50th birthday. A course already marked by new official portraits unveiled this Monday on social networks. Pictures on which the princess poses with her husband, Crown Prince Frederik, in ceremonial attire.
Against a plain gray background, Mary of Denmark appears majestic in a long light blue sequined dress, a model created by Danish designer Lasse Spangenberg. Alongside her husband, in military uniform, the Australian-born brought out several of her favorite jewels for the occasion: earrings, a magnificent brooch, a ring and a bracelet in diamonds and rubies, but above all, her favorite matching tiara. All these jewels – as well as a large necklace – are part of the same set that has accompanied her since her first steps as a princess.
This red and white adornment, the colors of the Danish flag, was not chosen at random… It was initially created in 1804 for the Frenchwoman Désirée Clary, the wife of Marshal Jean-Baptiste Bernadotte, for the coronation of Napoleon at Notre Dame. The adornment then followed the couple to Sweden, when Jean-Baptiste Bernadotte became king there – under the name of Charles XIV Jean – a few years later. It arrived in Denmark in 1869, when Queen Josephine of Sweden gave it to her granddaughter Princess Lovisa, on the occasion of her marriage to a certain… Prince Frederik of Denmark (first of the name).
