(San Francisco) American video game publisher Take-Two Interactive, the parent company of Rockstar Games, announced Thursday that the highly anticipated video game Grand Theft Auto VI would be released in fall 2025.
The Rockstar studio had already indicated, when the trailer was released, that the next opus of the successful franchise would be available next year, without giving further details.
“Consumers are awaiting this title with unprecedented impatience and our expectations for its commercial success continue to grow,” Take-Two Interactive said in its quarterly earnings release.
Leaders evaded questions seeking details on GTA VI during a conference call for financial analysts.
“Rockstar has not given details on a possible release date,” said Strauss Zelnick, CEO of Take-Two. “Their stunning trailer has been making the rounds on the internet and Rockstar will provide more information in due course.”
The trailer released in December showed chases, yacht parties, and, for the first time, a female lead character.
The video game will thus return to “Vice City”, a setting inspired by Miami, and once again promises fans the chance to play gangsters, from Florida villas to prison.
The promotional video had been viewed more than 42 million times on YouTube almost seven hours after it was posted.
Released ten years ago, the previous part, GTA Vhas sold more than 200 million copies, according to Mr. Zelnick.
Its success has not been without controversy, in particular because of the sulphurous aspect of the game which features individuals engaging in criminal behavior and which, according to its detractors, encourages players to reproduce in real life the actions of their character. Accusations rejected by Take-Two.
