Daria Kasatkina, 10e world racket, won her sixth career title on the WTA Tour with a 6-4, 6-4 win over Australian Daria Saville on Saturday.
On the men’s side, Montreal’s Gabriel Diallo qualified for the Granby ATP Challenger final with a straight-set 6-3, 6-4 win over Japan’s Hiroki Moriya, seeded ninth in the picture.
Kasatkina took the measure of the 72e world racket in one hour and 53 minutes.
A few weeks ago, Kasatkina captured the fifth title of her career in San Jose and showed up in Granby with a priority of 42 spots ahead of the second seed.
The Russian got her hands on the purse for US$19,750.
A first for Diallo
Thanks to his win, the 20-year-old Canadian will take part in his first Challenger Circuit final on Sunday at noon.
In order to be crowned champion, Diallo will have to defeat 17-year-old Chinese Juncheng Shang, seeded sixth.
Diallo, a six-foot-seven tennis player, needed an hour and 35 minutes to triumph.
The Quebecer was dominant in the service. In addition to hitting five aces, he kept 76% of his first balls in play and won 70% of those runs.
Shang, who won the Challenger in Lexington, USA, earlier in August, is the only player yet to have lost a round in Granby.
In the semifinals, Shang defeated 19-year-old American Aidan Mayo 6-3, 6-4.
