The fight was hot in the boroughs of Montreal between the candidates of Projet Montreal and Ensemble Montreal. All eyes were on Côte-des-Neiges – Notre-Dame-de-Grâce, where Gracia Kasoki Katahwa finally won over Lionel Perez.
The Project Montreal candidate narrowly won with 83 votes, after the ballot boxes at 299 polling stations were counted in the morning of Monday. Leader of the opposition at Montreal City Hall for four years, Lionel Perez was a heavyweight in the team led by Denis Coderre. He was first elected in 2010 as a city councilor.
Valérie Plante learned of her candidate’s victory during her press conference on Monday.
“We are happy. Côte-des-Neiges – Notre-Dame-de-Grâce is a borough to which I am extremely attached. We did not succeed in doing everything we wanted in the last term for the reasons we know. It is with great sadness that we had to stop working with the mayoress at the time [Sue Montgomery] She said.
In Outremont, Laurent Desbois of Ensemble Montréal finally won over Philipe Tomlinson, outgoing borough mayor who wore the colors of Projet Montréal.
Further details will follow.
