The noose is slowly tightening at Wimbledon. The second round matches begin on Wednesday, July 3, in London. For both the women and men, favorites will be on the London grass. This is notably the case for Coco Gauff (2nd), facing the Romanian Anca Todoni and Naomi Osaka, who defeated Diane Parry in the first round, against Emma Navarro (world number 17). The young world number 1 Jannik Sinner will face his compatriot and unfortunate finalist of the tournament in 2021, Matteo Berrettini (n°59), while Carlos Alcaraz (3rd) will face Aleksandar Vukic (n°69).
Nine French players will also be on the courts, including Gaël Monfils and Arthur Cazaux. Some, like Alexandre Müller, who will face Daniil Medvedev (world number 5) or Varvara Gracheva, who will face Dayana Yastremska (number 28), will have to be at their best if they want to see the third round. Ugo Humbert, the French number 1, will have to escape the Botic van de Zandschulp trap. Lucas Pouille and Arthur Rinderknech will also be back on the courts after their two matches were interrupted the day before, in the first round.
