His office remained closed on Friday June 9 due to a dispute. Soline Guillaumin, member of the collective “Doctors for tomorrow”, protests against the Valletoux bill, examined from Monday June 12 in public sessions at the National Assembly. Led by the Horizons MP, Frédéric Valletoux, it aims to “improve access to care through the territorial commitment of professionals”.

“Rather than imposing things, help us to settle down properly.”

Doctor Guillaumin is not convinced. “We are saying: ‘We are short of caregivers’. And they are telling us: ‘We are putting in additional administrative work to manage you’. No! It’s not not what we ask.”

A bill deemed “liberticide”

The text provides for the inclusion of all health professionals in territorial communities, a sort of local structure to coordinate the supply of care. But also to make on-call duty mandatory for all health establishments. Luc Duquesnel, president of the “Les Généralistes CSMF” union, denounces a blow to the independence and attractiveness of his profession. “Beyond the original text, the 700 amendments are liberticidal for these young doctors. They are forced to practice in deserts where there is no high school, no colleges, there is no longer a restaurant.. “Nothing! And we want to put doctors there?”

>>> Medical deserts: nearly 200 deputies will table an amendment aimed at regulating the freedom of establishment of doctors

This bill also intends to prohibit temporary work at the start of their career, to offer a monthly allowance for students who agree to stay in a medical desert for two years. For the unions, it is a roundabout way of regulating the installation of caregivers. The draftsman of the text Fréderic Valletoux ensures that he “do not wish” affect the freedom of installation.
