Governor General’s Literary Awards | Dominique Fortier and Alain Farah among the finalists

The Canada Council for the Arts announced the finalists for the Governor General’s Literary Awards on Wednesday morning.

Five titles were selected in the Novels and short stories category: radio gardenby Charlotte Biron (Le Quartanier), The white shadowsby Dominique Fortier (Viola), A thousand secrets, a thousand dangersby Alain Farah (Le Quartanier), Without shelterby Maryse Andraos (The August Horse), and End Table of Loveby Larry Tremblay (La Peuplade).

In the Essays category, the finalists are Arming Rage – For a Combat Literatureby Marie-Pier Lafontaine (Heliotrope), The source and the reedby Jean-François Beauchemin (Druid), The Roman roadby Sylveline Bourion (Boreal), The habit of ruins: the coronation of oblivion and ugliness in Quebecby Marie-Hélène Voyer (Lux Publisher), and You know what I mean ? Illustrations, metaphors and other images that speakby Clément de Gaulejac (Les Presses de l’Université de Montréal).

Marie-Pier Lafontaine is a finalist in the Essays category for her book Arming Rage – For a Combat Literature.

The other award-winning categories are Poetry, Theatre, Children’s Literature, Illustrated Books and Translation from English into French.

The Governor General’s Literary Awards illustrate the dynamism and constant renewal of our literary scene. The quantity, quality and diversity of books that the Canada Council for the Arts has received confirm the creative force of those who devote their lives to literature.

In all, 70 finalists were chosen in French and English. Each of them wins the sum of $1,000.

The winners of the seven categories will be announced on November 16.
