Governor General’s Awards finalists revealed

The collaborator of DutyMarie Hélène Poitras, managed to carve out a place among the finalists for the Governor General’s Literary Awards.

His collection of short stories, Galumpfwas selected in the Novels and Short Stories category, along with The gold of the larches by Carole Labarre, by My son only came back for seven days by David Clerson, Dark is the night by Brigitte Haentjens andA postcard from the ocean by Stéfani Meunier.

As for the essays, the jury highlighted the quality of the work of Philippe Bernier Arcand (False rebels. The excesses of political incorrectness), by Frédéric Bérard (I accuse the torturers of Omar Khadr), by Dahlia Narmian (The provocative society), by Martine Béland (Megaptera) and Francis Dupuis-Déri (Panic at University).

In poetry, the selection includes On open ground by Sebastián Ibarra Gutiérrez, Atiku utei. The heart of the caribou by Rita Mestokosho, Joy exercises by Louise Dupré, The black factory by Virginie Chaloux-Gendron and Transparent mourning by Virginie Savard.

Governor General’s Awards are also presented in the categories of Theatre, Children’s Literature – Text, Children’s Literature – Illustrated Books and Translation from English to French. The complete list of finalists is available on the site livresgg.ca.

A total of 70 books published in Canada in 2022 and 2023 were selected by peer review committees formed by the Canada Council for the Arts, which funds and administers the awards.

The 14 winning titles, whose authors will be awarded a $25,000 grant, will be announced on November 8.
