For several days, false bomb threats have been increasing in France in schools, airports and cultural places. Éric Dupond-Moretti, Minister of Justice, assured that their perpetrators will be “found and punished”.
A little before 9 hourson the morning of Thursday October 19, the bell of a high school in Rennes (Ille-et-Vilaine) sounded continuously. A bomb threat was given, and the establishment had to be evacuated. After being sheltered in a nearby park, the students were invited to return home, hoping to resume classes during the day. There are hundreds of this type of alert throughout the country and overseas. Airports, museums, monuments… No establishment is spared.
The perpetrators risk two years in prison
Evacuations are ordered following threats received most often on Iinternet or by telephone. False alerts taken very seriously by the authorities. “These little jokers, these little puppets, who have fun with these threats, false in this case, will be found and punished“, assured Eric Dupond-MorettiJustice Ministry. Several investigations have already been opened to find the perpetrators. Investigations which can be long and complex. Authors of false alerts face two years in prison and a fine of 30,000 euros.
