Government of Canada found ‘no evidence of political interference’ to favor McKinsey

The Treasury Board says it found no evidence of political interference in the awarding of federal contracts to the consulting firm McKinsey&Company.

Last year, the media highlighted the rapid growth in the value of federal contracts awarded to McKinsey since the Liberals came to power in 2015.

The Prime Minister then asked, last January, the President of the Treasury Board, Mona Fortier, and the Minister of Procurement, Helena Jaczek, to examine the process for awarding these contracts.

The final report of this review, released Tuesday, indicates that the various departmental audits found no evidence of political interference or damage to the integrity of the federal procurement process.

However, the audits revealed that “certain administrative requirements and procedures had not been systematically followed”, confirming the preliminary findings published in March.

The government says McKinsey has received at least $116.8 million in federal contracts since 2015. That’s a small fraction of contracts awarded by Ottawa to consulting firms.
