The Senate voted aid of 230 million euros for homes heating with fuel oil, Tuesday, August 2, proposed by opposition deputies. This amendment to the draft amending budget for 2022 had been tabled by the government. The text provides for the opening, on the “Energy, climate and post-mining” program, of 230 million euros in credits “to finance targeted support measures for low-income households still heated by fuel oil, in a context of rising energy prices”. These measures will be specified by regulation and limited in time.

The Minister of the Economy, Bruno Le Maire, has proposed involving parliamentarians in defining the targeting of households that will be able to benefit from this additional aid. Three million people are still heated with fuel oil, according to the minister. According to rapporteur Jean-François Husson (LR), “a form of targeting seems necessary, first of all to exclude households heating their second homes with oil”. The Senate must complete overnight the first reading of the amending finance bill for 2022.

In the National Assembly, the amendment of LR Jérôme Nury had been voted with the alliance of the oppositions Nupes, LR and RN, while the government defended a more limited measure of 50 million euros. Arrived at the Senate, the latter therefore reviewed his copy.
