Not to be missed summer activities and novelties.

Oasis of flavors

The Montreal Botanical Garden offers, throughout the summer, a program under the sign of gastronomy. Indeed, the Botanical Flavors event will welcome every week, from July 10 to August 12, guest chefs from different Montreal cultural communities (Japan, Haiti, Brazil, Syria, Senegal, Hungary, Afghanistan, China) and First Nations who will offer visitors a taste of vegetable specialties made from local products. At the same time, until September 4, events on food waste and a small craftsmen’s market will accompany this tempting menu. For those who are at a distance, you can also discover the Botanical Garden’s new web series, Vegetable gardens of the world. We follow rising chef Camilo Lapointe-Nascimento, who sets out to meet, from an intimate angle, six market gardening enthusiasts from different backgrounds.

Revival of an iconic restaurant

In 1938, a certain Moishe Lighter founded Moishes, which has become a Montreal temple of grilling and dishes inspired by Eastern Europe. Closed since 2020 due to the pandemic, this emblematic business has been taken over by a new group. So much so that 85 years after its opening, the Moishes restaurant has just been reborn at a new address, in the International District. Equipped with a chic design celebrating the history of the establishment (old chandeliers, original butcher’s scale, etc.) and the modernity of Montreal (including a large mural), the establishment also benefits from a new menu designed by Chef Murteza Talu, of course with USDA Prime grade grills, but also new fish and vegetarian dishes.

Sparkling coffee

We knew about iced coffee and iced coffee. Well, now we can drink sparkling iced coffee! This novelty from Café Pista, whose cold brewed coffees (cold brew) have been successful for several years, is actually a slightly effervescent version of the canned ready-to-drink launched last year. Without preservatives or additives, Fizzy Iced Coffee therefore contains only coffee, water and a touch of CO2.

Mixology in a can

Created by Marc Dupré and his manager Francis Delage, the Cherry River distillery, well established in Magog, produces a fairly wide range of spirits, alcoholic sparkling waters, bitters and ready-to-drink with or without alcohol. Its new Mixology collection, sold in mixed boxes at the SAQ, includes three cocktails: the Rum Mojito, the Vodka Cosmo and the Tequila Margarita. Note: these cocktails have a short list of ingredients and are not too sweet, a good thing.
