Gourmet Notepad | The duty

In order to accompany Halloween with dignity, here is a series of suggestions related to this deliciously thrilling holiday.

Yum, insects!

Spiders and other small flying or crawling bugs may be popular on Halloween, but much less on our menus in North America than in other parts of the world. However, they constitute, according to specialists, one of the avenues for feeding humanity in the future, and they deserve to be better known and valued. This is why the Montreal Insectarium has decided to devote a series of four activities to them focusing on their scientific, artistic… and gourmet interest! From November 2 to 5, with the assistance of iconic chef Daniel Vézina, an Entomo-miam kiosk will welcome visitors to the Le Central food court with gourmet insect bites. The chef, who recently participated in the creation of a range of potato chips made from mealworm powder, has also concocted a gourmet box made from insects for the occasion. Perhaps you will see entomophagy with new eyes later?

Magic formulas at the ITHQ

Fans of Harry Potter and the Hogwarts universe can rejoice! The Institut de tourisme et d’hôtellerie du Québec has decided to make Halloween rhyme with bewitching gourmet experiences. The school was thus inspired by the great banquets of Hogwarts to create in its restaurant a five-course tasting menu around squash (both evenings are unfortunately full) as well as an aperitif formula at its Blanc bec bar, where Epicurious can taste butter beer and Quebec cheese in the shape of a witch’s broom. All that’s missing is Bertie Crochue’s surprise dragees to literally dive into the magical world of Potter.

Until October 29, 2022, Blanc bec bar at the ITHQ, 3535 Saint-Denis Street, Montreal.

Pumpkin teas

What would Halloween be without pumpkins? The Davids Tea company has understood this well by offering, among its wide range of products, several teas with cucurbits. You can therefore get a chai tea with rich aromas of pumpkin, cinnamon and clove; an earl gray tea with vanilla, bergamot and pumpkin spices; a matcha enhanced with cane sugar and natural pumpkin pie flavor; a white tea with notes of cooked cream, white chocolate, coconut and pumpkin seeds. Finally, for the most gourmet or nostalgic, Davids Tea offers Pumpkin Crème Brûlée tea, a happy blend of this typical 1980s dessert, flavors of white chocolate and cooked pumpkin. Good tasting !

Operation #MaCitrouilleTurquoise

Halloween is every child’s holiday. Well, almost everyone, because some of them living with food allergies can’t enjoy treats like everyone else. The Allergies Québec association has therefore launched the My Turquoise Pumpkin operation to allow them to experience Halloween like the others. To participate, all you have to do is drop a pumpkin painted turquoise in front of your home, register on an interactive map dedicated to the operation, then stock up on non-edible treats, such as tattoos, fluorescent bracelets, small bouncing balls or whistles. A great inclusive initiative.
