The Google search engine makes a nod to Quebec on Friday by displaying an illustration of a poutine dish on its presentation page, accompanied by the words “Celebrating poutine”.
The drawing represents poutine in its most traditional form, the one made up of three ingredients: fries, cheese curds and gravy.
The dish, which originated in Quebec, has nevertheless offered a multitude of varieties for several years, for example with ground meat, various sausages, smoked meat, cabbage and roasted vegetables, or with a Bolognese sauce that replaces brown sauce.
The exact origins of poutine remain unclear, but it seems to have been introduced 60 or 70 years ago in restaurants in the Centre-du-Québec region.
Since that time, the high-calorie dish has continued to gain popularity in all regions of Quebec that has largely crossed borders for several decades.
