Polestar is arguably one of the manufacturers best positioned to take on Tesla head-on. Volvo’s high-performance all-electric subsidiary benefits from a lot of technical resources, but invariably also has to make itself known to the general public. The targeted advertising campaign during the last season of Everybody talks about it unmistakably exposes it. Last week, the brand made a stop at the prestigious Goodwood Festival of Speed, in England, to exhibit its next flagship, the Polestar 5, promised to be very fast.

In fact, the exercise is still trying to make a place for Polestar within the select club of manufacturers who make performance one of their identity pillars. The example of the sedan shown at the event was a prototype, draped in the essential camouflage suit pending an official presentation of this creation in its final form. However, the inspiration of the Precept style study can be seen in these apparently very homogeneous lines.
That said, it’s more what’s hidden under this dress that captures the attention. Polestar has confirmed that its top-spec version will get two electric motors that will produce 872 hp and 663 lb-ft of torque. It’s not at the level of the Tesla Model S Plaid, whose performance rivals the most powerful cars on the planet, but the Swedish one will probably do quite well.

Like the most modern electric cars, this Polestar 5 will rely on an 800 V electrical architecture to increase the speed of energy storage as well as its use. However, we will have to wait until 2024 to take the wheel.
